I built this from a spare bedroom.
I'm Derica — a self-taught photographer, Georgia State Fine Arts graduate, wife, and mom of five including triplet boys. This business started in a small room in my house. No studio. No investors. No one handing me clients.
My husband bought me my first DSLR back when he was still my boyfriend. I photographed friends, family, anyone who'd stand in front of my lens. I worked full-time as an insurance agent for years while shooting on the side — learning the craft one session at a time.
Then, right before the pandemic, I found out I was pregnant with triplets. Carrying three babies changed everything. I quit my day job during the peak of COVID and took a bet on myself. After the boys were born, I came back to shooting — and something shifted. Having lived through a high-risk pregnancy, I understood what maternity photography actually meant. It wasn't just pictures. It was honoring the most surreal, powerful season a woman can walk through.
Five years later, I've generated over $700K in booked revenue, photographed more than 1,000 sessions, and in 2025 I finally opened my own private atelier in Atlanta. From a spare bedroom to a 1,500 sqft studio — built entirely on craft, word of mouth, and showing up consistently.
Everything I teach inside this program is exactly how I did it. No theory. No recycled advice from courses I bought. Just the real path, mapped out.
